Good oral health requires you to be proactive. You should not delay the daily routine of taking care of your teeth and gums. You should not avoid making the appointment with our offices. Instead, you should make the effort to avoid any delays when it comes to your dental care. If you do, these are some of the things that you may have to deal with.
What Happens When You Skip a Visit?
We recommend that you visit our office at least twice a year for checkups. There are some people who do not follow these guidelines. Someone in good health can possibly go as long as two years between visits, but if they do, there are plenty of bad things that can happen. A small cavity may not cause many symptoms. You might occasionally have some discomfort when biting down or some tooth sensitivity to hot and cold, but you may not pay attention to them. If this is happening, the cavity will not go away. Instead, it will just get larger and larger. It can end up spreading to other teeth or to your gums. This is true with any oral health issue. The earlier you catch the problem, the easier it is to treat. Delaying visits only give the problems a chance to grow.
What Regular Visits Offer
The reason that people say they skip their regular visit will vary, but many talk about how they are always told their teeth and gums are healthy. They do not realize what goes into a routine exam. During the exam we look for the smallest of signs that something could happen in the future. We screen for gum disease, tooth decay and oral cancer to name a few things. We look for changes since the last visit that are a sign of a problem. If you skip a visit it is harder to notice changes.
We think regular visits are important, but understand people lead busy lives. That does not mean they should practice delaying anything when it comes to their oral health. Call us to schedule an appointment now. We are here to help you.
